Rent
Book, lyrics and music by Jonathan Larson
Performances June 23-30, 2024
Set in the East Village of New York City, Rent is about falling in love, finding your voice and living for today. Rent follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side. The group’s dreams, losses, and love stories weave through the musical’s narration to paint a stunningly raw and emotional portrait of the gritty bohemian world of New York City in the late 1980s, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

What does a person expect out of a blind date? First Date takes the audience through the first meeting of Casey and Aaron, two 30-ish New York City singles set up by friends and family. The two have nothing in common: Aaron is a conservative banker looking for a meaningful relationship, while Casey is an artist, a little too funky for Wall Street. With the influences of their friends and family (played out in their imaginations) as well as the effects of social media, this first date seems to be doomed. But with the help of a meddling but well-meaning waiter, Casey and Aaron might make a connection after all. With a contemporary rock score, First Date gleefully pokes fun at the mishaps and mistakes of blind dates and gives hope that there could be that one perfect moment.

Theophilus Carter is content with his small tailor’s shop on High Street, thank you very much. But when his best friend publishes a nonsense book called Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and uses him as the inspiration for The Mad Hatter, his sensible shop becomes a mad house of uppity Londoners trying to get a peek at the real Mad Hatter. As Theo struggles to maintain his simple life, and Lewis Carroll roars to success as one of England’s greatest authors, it’s bound time for a puckish young woman named Alice to find her way back into the Hatter’s life. As a real world look into the lives that made Wonderland, MAD AS A HATTER explores the burden of nostalgia, the whimsy of madness, and the undeniable power of play.

A group of Louisiana women bond and gossip at a local beauty shop while following the marriage and motherhood of one of the customer’s daughters. Robert Harling’s play made its 2005 Broadway debut after a 1987 off-Broadway premiere and successful 1989 film version. The play is alternately hilarious and touching—and, in the end, deeply revealing of the strength and purposefulness which underlies the antic banter of its characters.
